Save both energy and money
With Americans now working, studying, or spending extra time at home, electric bills will probably go up. Everyone at home can do more to conserve energy for the sake not only of their wallets but of the environment as well. Small and simple actions can make a difference. It takes around two months to create a habit. Here are some habits that you can create to build a more sustainable home.
STOP ADJUSTING THE THERMOSTAT
Dress so that you're comfortable at home with more or less layers instead of setting the thermostat super low or high. Open windows and dress lighter instead of blasting the AC. Use more layers instead of setting it on high. This will save you a lot of your home's energy use.
TURN OF ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT
Don't let the TV on in the background all day long. Read a book, cook a meal, finish a puzzle, and find hobbies that don't require your home's energy. Be mindful of the electronics you use to limit your power use.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF NATURAL LIGHT
Make use of all the natural light by opening blinds and curtains. Fill your home with sunlight instead of electricity and you will see a big change in your bill.
SET YOUR DEVICES TO ENERGY-SAVING MODE
Adjust your tablet, laptop, desktop, or whatever you work on to a lower energy usage setting, this way your device will use less electricity. So you will use your device the same as usual but you will use less power.
PUT YOUR UNUSED APPLIANCES AWAY
Unplug any appliances and electronics that you are not using so that you don't pay for more than you use. This could be an extra refrigerator in your garage, a toaster that you barely use, etc.
All of these tips are helpful when it comes to saving energy. However, the most impactful is to switch to solar. It makes no sense to continue paying higher prices for fossil-fuel energy when you can save big by using clean renewable energy.
We need to find a way to not be powerless in these uncertain times and renewable energy is the first step. It is very beneficial to invest in backup energy storage. A backup battery allows you to store the energy that your solar panels generate so that you can save it for later. There is no better way to prepare for a power emergency.
If you are saving energy, you’re saving money as well.
